Gibson CEO to Obama: Show Some Concern for Nation's Job Creators

Published September 08, 2011

FoxNews.com

The chief executive of Gibson Guitar Corp., which has been the target of two federal raids in the past two years over the exotic wood it uses to make the instruments, said Thursday that he wants President Obama to show some concern for the nation’s job creators in his big speech on jumpstarting the economy.

“It’s not easy to compete on a global basis,” Gibson's Henry Juszkiewicz told Fox News. “We’re competing with Chinese, European companies. We’d like to feel like we’re respected and help create jobs.”

Juszkiewicz will be House Speaker John Boehner’s guest at Obama’s speech before a joint session of Congress on Thursday night. Obama is unveiling his plan to jumpstart the weak economy. But Boehner's invitation to Juszkiewicz is a shot across the bow to the president, whose agenda of regulations and new taxes is seen by critics as anti-business.

Federal agents first raided the Nashville company in 2009 over suspect wood shipments from Madagascar. Gibson took that case to court but has denounced the administration with a vengeance after agents returned late last month to raid several Gibson factories -- this time out of concern that Indian export laws had been violated.

Gibson's CEO has said repeatedly that the only reason his company is in trouble is because U.S. workers are completing work on guitar fingerboards in the United States. He has suggested that his troubles would go away if he used foreign labor.

On Thursday, he said his company’s track record of hiring Americans – 580 in the last two years – is now in jeopardy at a time when the economy can least afford it.

“Our employees’ jobs are at risk. Our business is getting shut down,” he said, adding that the dustup with the feds is causing business concerns. “We’re competing with other companies that aren’t facing the same treatment.”

THINK ROY BUCHANAN BLUESMASTER

My newest aquisition is a 1988 Fritz Brothers Roy Buchanan Bluesmaster Telecaster. This model was prototyped for Roy and only 50 were made. Roy requested the last one for himself #50. This is # 50 and was aquired through a private sale from one of Roys long time associates who initially aquired the guitar after Roy's death in August 1988. George Harrison and Susanna Hoffs also owned one of the guitars in the limited run, No. 1 and No. 2 respectively.  Below are Videos and photos of Roy with the protype guitar and a video of George ( and Eric Clapton )live in Japan (1991) playing his. Notice that Georges had a tortoise shell pickguard and a brighter sunburst finish. Each guitar in the 50 run had the body custom finished by order.
The Fritz Brothers did a very nice job on this beauty. The fit, trim and finish is outstanding. In my opinion, much higher quality than a custom shop Tele. The biggest differences between A Fender Tele and this model?? This one has three active EMGs controlled through a pearl capped 5 way selector with a covered battery rout on the backside. Sperzel locking tuners. Custom set neck configuration and custom burst finish that is beautifully bound. It also has a stainless steel nut which adds some sharpness to the tone. Very well made and finished. I know that some people put their noses up with regards to EMG's because they tend to be a little bit more "in your face" and seem to lack that "warmer growl tone" but it comes down to this: Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, and Roy had no problem creating their own individual tones with them. I personally like them too, especially in Fenders. God rest your soul Mr. Bluesmaster.

From Vintage Guitar Magazine Interview with Susanna Hoffs 10/10/06
At that time, you also played the Fritz Brothers’ Roy Buchanan Bluesmaster guitar. How did that come about?

"They contacted me and said Roy wanted me to have the guitar. He made the number one model for George Harrison. Mine came with a number two on it, and my name on the little engraved tag on the back. I was really honored. I have no idea how he knew about me or anything. But apparently he requested that I have that guitar. It’s an orange one. Vicki got a blue 12-string shortly after I got mine."

THINK ECOLOGY

This beautiful Great White swimming the burial grounds of Usama bin Laden is helping the Eco-System by ensuring that the sea remains free of poisonous, unearthly human sediment that is unworthy of  burial beneath the feet of mankind. This shark was last seen with two legs from his jaws swimming away from Mecca. Notice the smile, obviously the body was washed and prepped according to Great White Law and Traditions.

Pre Electric Company Electricity

This is Billy Shaw's helmet that sits in the NFL hall of fame. Billy played for the Buffalo Bills from 1961-69 and was an All Star selection in the old AFL from 1962-1969 , the year O.J. was drafted. Billy played as an offensive guard for the Bills. Despite not being part of the infamous Electric Company that "turned on the Juice" , he may have been the best OL the Bills ever had.  He is the only Hall of Famer that never played in the NFL. The AFL/NFL merger took place after his retirement. Look at that helmet..........truly awesome.

Totally Unplugged "MoveTheGame.org"

This is another example of why I support Arizona's Immigration stance. We have an independant individual trying to strong arm Major Leauge Baseball into moving the AllStar games from Phoenix because he does not like the Law.  Bud Selig would become the worst  Commisioner in MLB if he EVEN thought about bowing to this guy.  Roberto Lovato, the organizer behind  "Movethegame" tried to deliver over 100k signatures to Selig to move the games from Phoenix, probably all signed by illegals. Some players, themselves, threatened to boycott in support, mostly Dominicans. That says it all.......aliens supporting aliens. How about playing some ball , you do have a contract right???  Baseball been Veddy Veddy good to you!

Think Electric.....Fences

Raising Arizona......................TAXES without SB1070

The cost of illegal immigration to Arizona is reportedly at $2.7 Billion. The Federation of American Immigration Reform (FAIR) estimated that the costs to the state are $1.6 billion from Arizona's education system, $694.8 million from health care services, $339.7 million in law enforcement and court costs, $85.5 million in welfare costs and $155.4 million in other general costs. In fairness, you need to discount the cost of monitoring and incarceration, which at the margin, do not reflect enforcing Arizona SB1070. However, it also does reflect the marginal cost benefit to the national economy by allowing Arizona rather than the U.S. Government to manage the issue. Micro governments that are affected by state specific issues have not only a comparative advantage in controlling the monitoring costs, but also are incentivized to do so from both a political and economical standpoint. Let California learn from this and be the next State to control their economy by building fences.............Electric Fences.
What should be the U.S. Government's role? Simply..utilizing human capital to maximize output of the economy without asking for tax payer subsidies. The U.S. Government has spent billions of tax payer's money to fund programs that are "Pie in the Sky" to train and to educate, which is all fine ..but has it paid off?? Send me a report that says it has. Send me a report that shows the marginal benefit to our economy. Send me a report that shows that the lower paid jobs are being filled by those that have milked the system by taking a life long free ride.
Arizona is taking a stand on this issue. They are trying to avoid the added debt burden which supports BOTH the free riders and illegal immigrants at the tax payers expense. They are not prejudiced against Mexicans, they are prejudiced against a system that fails to support the American Dream that made this country. If we have the human resources here...put them to work FIRST. If they refuse, let those who are able and willing to work step in. At that point we can tear down the border fences and build a new one around the system that supports free riding and rebuild this nation.

The Prisoner. Aren't we all?  I live in a gated community in Florida, The Plantion at Ponte Vedra Beach. Sometimes I feel like I am living in "The Village. Patrick McGoohan used the Broadcacasting Network in England as his personal canvas to paint his beliefs for the television viewer. His brush strokes were truley Electric. This Video is not for distribution. It is for personal use only. Music by Mark Knopler and Dire Straits. Video by A&E Home Entertainment.
